School Extracurricular

School clubs run every lunchtime in school. Many departments run support sessions for their subject, but there are many other clubs that take place, including the debating society, cinema club, culture club, creative writing club, origami club, chess club, the Christian "Rock Solid" society and many others.

Musical talent can find an outlet in a variety of extra-curricular activities. The school has choirs, instrumental groups, a wind band and a full orchestra. Many performances and recitals by individuals and groups are given throughout the year, including at least two major concerts.

The school is well supported by the Peripatetic Music Service, offering lessons in a wide range of instruments in school, and many students enjoy participating in county groups. The House Choir contest is held in school at Easter and is always an incredible display of the creativity and organisation of our girls.

Interest in drama and the theatre is encouraged through the organisation of a wide range of theatre visits and the use of Theatre in Education groups. Those who wish to participate in performance also have the opportunity to join after school Drama Clubs, be involved in the school's annual production, or offer items for variety shows.

Public speaking is greatly encouraged, and KGGS has an enviable record of success in both local and national competitions. Students have opportunities to speak, either as individuals or as members of a team, and may give class presentations and assemblies representing their House or the school. KGGS teams and individuals regularly win trophies in the National Finals of competitions organised by such bodies as the English Speaking Union and Rotary International. We also have a history of great success in the national Bar Mock Trials competition over recent years.
