Bournemouth School Entrance Criteria

School: Bournemouth School

There is one set of selection tests for Bournemouth School, Bournemouth School for Girls, Parkstone Grammar School and Poole Grammar School (the 'Dorset Consortium').  This will save children whose parents wish them to be considered for admission to more than one selective school in the Consortium from taking multiple tests for those schools.   The tests will be taken at the school with whom the parent has registered their child.  All applicants to a Consortium School must complete a Registration Form to be eligible to sit the entrance tests. The Exam is written by GL and involves three papers: English, Maths & Verbal Reasoning.

School Extracurricular

The volume and diversity of extra-curricular activities ensures that the interests and talents of individuals are met. Numerous trips provide good opportunities to experience and learn about different cultures. Alongside the annual ski trip and trips to the World War I Battlefields, the languages department have offered in recent years the opportunity for students to visit France, Spain and Germany. During the week before the summer half term students in Years 7 to 9 (whilst Year 10 complete their work experience) are engaged in a wide range of activities. A variety of trips out of school such as to Marwell Zoo, Kew Gardens and Portchester Castle are complemented by a number of activities in school, such as art and drama workshops, PSHE presentations, and enterprise/languages activities.

Whilst the precise nature and timing of trips and visits changes from year to year, the mainstays of the school's extra-curricular provision are sport, music, the Combined Cadet Force, the Scouts and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
